Climate Control Self Storage Units: An Environment for Superior Storage, Both in the Loading Areas, and for Each Unit.

"Great, thanks for answering all of my questions!  I really appreciated the opportunity to lease a space from you and would definitely recommend your facility! Thanks so much for helping me out!"

The awful truth is this: you don’t want to toss certain things. So, you store them. But, you find that the self-storage unit you chose really doesn’t use climate controlled self-storage units. So, in such storage, sure, the severity of hot or cold weather extremes may be avoided… extremes that would damage items stored in any self-storage unit.

But, temperatures and other “climate” factors still affect what you do put into storage: vital records, valuable documents needed for a variety of things in your life. Your home, of course, comes to mind. But, what about your business, electronic possessions you want to keep, wood furniture pieces, photographs you could never replace if lost, leather belongings, books, clothing, and a host of other valuable possessions, all of which can be destroyed if not properly protected.

Wisconsin is notorious for its constantly changing weather patterns. So, our climate-controlled storage units were designed to provide the perfect solution for storing items – be they personal and household or business and commercial self-storage units.

At Stadium Self-Storage, our climate control self-storage units are maintained within a steady range of temperatures of 60–75°. Maintaining such a controlled environment minimizes many risk factors you would otherwise face:
  • Mold, mildew and bacteria growth
  • Warping, cracking and splitting
  • Rust, yellowing and corrosion
  • Infestation of wasps, mice, termites and other vermin Climate-controlled storage units are typically

How to Choose a Climate-Controlled Self-storage Unit for Your Needs

As with all things, are a few things you can do to prepare your possessions for the proper climate controlled self-storage unit protection they demand.

Step 1: Take into Account What Kinds of Temperatures You Do Face in Your Area

Frankly, if you live Milwaukee Wisconsin, you face rapid changes… and it’s constant throughout the year! Obviously, the temperature in any climate-controlled storage unit should never be allowed to approach the extremes of freezing or scorching in the summer. If your area experiences both extreme hot and cold temperatures, a climate control self-storage unit should provide the best choice for you.

Step 2: Take into Account All of What You Plan to Put into Self-storage

The following… well, you know. There’s always the necessity for building a “list of items” people commonly store away.
If you plan to access your self stored items, on again, off again … OR… if you believe you will be adding or removing them, bear in mind your comfort when working within your self-storage unit. An agreeable temperature can make the task go much easier and probably quicker. We tend to not need the kinds of “breaks” taken in hot or cold temperature environments.
Belongings that are usually found in the house, at the office or throughout a workspace, are often the very things most affected by temperature variances:

Items Commonly Used in Business Offices, Needing Climate Controlled Environments for Their Protection in Self-Storage:
  • Computers & computer parts
  • Audio Equipment
  • Business Supplies
  • Software
  • Medical supplies
  • Archived documents
  • Marketing materials
  • Video Equipment
  • Business documents

Step 3: Take into Account the Value of Those Items Put in Your Self-storage Unit

Climate control storage units may cost a little more than standard units. For one thing, standard units (not climate controlled) do not protect against a wide range of threats to your possessions. In order to decide whether the cost is acceptable, you must weigh the value of what you are planning to put away in storage. If you are packing away electronics or equipment that are covered by insurance, remember that it will be easy to tell yourself “I can get this insured.”

So, you decide against the self-storage unit protection it provides. But, stop a minute. Do you really want to go through the hassle of insurance claims, packing items, phone calls (most often putting you on hold), etc. What is your time worth? And, will they “pay up”. We’ve all had the infuriating let down of being left “out in the cold” when told some clause in the warranty doesn’t apply. Is it worth it… especially if it is NOT just one item ruined, but several?

If you are storing items of sentimental value, or important documents needed by your place of business, then the additional cost may be insignificant, when weighed against your “peace of mind”. So, if your possessions are items…
  • too costly to allow ruin
  • too inconvenient to replace
  • too risky because actually, truly,  “irreplaceable
  • too time consuming for you to address
  • too sentimentally charged with emotion to lose or…
  • too disturbing to ones peace of mind to expose…
…Since you must provide for a self-storage unit, then it is axiomatic, “You must store them well.”
